Black Bear Sighting Village Park: 🚨While some may consider this exciting, this is a very important public safety notice.🚨This morning, 8/28/24, there was a sighting of a black bear in the Village of North Freedom Park - S Linn St.The Conservation Warden of our area has been notified and if there are consistent problems that arise from the bear, the wildlife management team and/or conservation wardens will be then notified to help trap and relocate the bear elsewhere.  As this is the first official reported sighting, that process has not been started yet.  The bear could have been passing through looking for a place to live. The Village of North Freedom would like to make it known to the public to NOT ENGAGE WITH THE BEAR.  Do not approach it, feed it, interact with it, etc.  Please be aware of your surroundings, children, and family pets.  The Village will reduce the garbage in the park and continue monitoring the park for potential problems. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has a great resource about how to "Be Bear Aware" found here:  https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/newsroom/release/90876

Demolition of FEMA Houses

Residents of the Village of North Freedom,

Please be aware that the demolition of the 2018 flood damaged-Village acquired-FEMA homes will begin this week.  This will be ONLY a machine demolition (i.e., excavators, skid loaders, etc.) – NO fire will be used.  Demolition will take place during the normal business hours of 8:00 A.M. to dusk.  The homes are located in the S Oak Street and Willow Street vicinity.  These parcels will then be converted back to green space and an open Village park area.

We understand that this project will attract onlookers, but we ask that residents stay away from the area during the demolition and green space restoration to ensure safety for everyone.  The dumpsters that will be used are NOT for public use.

Thank you for your understanding!
