Black Bear Sighting Village Park: 🚨While some may consider this exciting, this is a very important public safety notice.🚨This morning, 8/28/24, there was a sighting of a black bear in the Village of North Freedom Park - S Linn St.The Conservation Warden of our area has been notified and if there are consistent problems that arise from the bear, the wildlife management team and/or conservation wardens will be then notified to help trap and relocate the bear elsewhere.  As this is the first official reported sighting, that process has not been started yet.  The bear could have been passing through looking for a place to live. The Village of North Freedom would like to make it known to the public to NOT ENGAGE WITH THE BEAR.  Do not approach it, feed it, interact with it, etc.  Please be aware of your surroundings, children, and family pets.  The Village will reduce the garbage in the park and continue monitoring the park for potential problems. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has a great resource about how to "Be Bear Aware" found here:  https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/newsroom/release/90876

Absentee Ballot Drop Box Information

ABSENTEE VOTERS!
Please read this article (Article: https://www.channel3000.com/i/wisconsin-supreme-court-disallows-absentee-ballot-drop-boxes-2/) on the recent Wisconsin Supreme Court’s ruling on ballot drop boxes and the dropping off of ballots in person.
A couple key points from the article:
🛑 “The court said absentee ballots can be returned only to the clerk’s office or a designated alternative site but that site cannot be an unstaffed drop box.”
🛑 “No one other than the voter can return a ballot in person.”

Wisconsin State Statutes – Chapter 6: The Electors: https://docs.legis.wisconsin.gov/statutes/statutes/6

Please note: The Village of North Freedom does, indeed, have a drop box at their Village Office location (105 N Maple St, North Freedom, WI 53951). It is staffed by the Clerk/Treasurer ONLY during the open Office hours (Monday through Friday 8:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. – Closed daily 12:00 P.M. to 12:30 P.M. for the lunch hour) therefore, a voter dropping off their voted & certified Absentee Ballot can only deposit their ballot when the Office is open. If the ballot is deposited into the drop box AFTER the open hours, it will NOT be counted.
Thank you!
